Australian company adopts four-day work week after noticing workers were happier and more productive

In recent years, the concept of a four-day workweek has gained significant traction in Australia, with numerous companies reporting enhanced employee satisfaction and productivity after adopting this model.A notable example is Medibank, which expanded its four-day workweek trial to 500 employees after observing that participants were "happier, healthier and more productive."The company's chief customer officer, Milosh Milisavljevic, emphasized the positive outcomes, stating,"People are happier, healthier and more productive, which is great."Similarly, a report by Swinburne University of Technology examined 10 Australian businesses that trialed a four-day workweek.All participating companies continued with the reduced schedule post-trial, with four adopting it permanently.Despite the reduction in working hours, 70% of these organizations experienced an increase in productivity, while the remaining 30% reported no change.The non-profit organization 4 Day Week Global conducted a six-month trial involving 26 companies across Australasia.The findings revealed that 95% of the organizations favored the new working hours, citing benefits such as reduced stress levels among employees and maintained or even enhanced productivity.These developments indicate a growing recognition among Australian companies of the advantages associated with a four-day workweek.By prioritizing employee well-being and optimizing productivity, businesses are not only enhancing job satisfaction but also potentially gaining a competitive edge in talent attraction and retention.
