About the Position:

Are you passionate about IT support and technology solutions? The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistry IT team is looking for a Desktop Support Specialist to provide crucial IT support to faculty, staff, and students. This position will be based on-site and will be essential in maintaining the technology infrastructure of the College of Dentistry.

As a member of this dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of duties, including assisting with Helpdesk operations, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and maintaining desktop systems, printers, and audio-visual equipment. You will also manage IT assets, help supervise student workers, and participate in special projects that enhance the overall technology experience for the College.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Helpdesk Support: Provide in-person and remote IT support for hardware, software, networking, and audio/visual issues, answering helpdesk tickets and troubleshooting requests.
  • Computer Setup & Maintenance: Install, set up, and maintain desktop systems, printers, scanners, and A/V equipment throughout the College of Dentistry.
  • Network Support: Assist with networking issues, such as troubleshooting network connections and activating/deactivating network jacks.
  • IT Asset Management: Oversee the lifecycle of IT assets, ensuring proper disposal of surplus equipment, coordinating the removal of items from inventory, and ensuring all assets are tagged correctly.
  • Supervision & Training: Supervise graduate assistants (student workers), train them in helpdesk operations, and provide guidance on technical issues.
  • A/V Equipment Management: Gain expertise in managing lecture hall audio/visual equipment and work with vendors for upgrades or installations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of professional IT experience in IT Support Services, including hands-on troubleshooting of computer hardware, software, and classroom technologies. Prior experience in end-user technical support (in person, via phone, or through ticketing systems) is required.
